Some Thing to Watch for Future Developments

Welcome to the MN Chapter, EAA Website! MNEAA

The Electric Auto Association is a non-profit educational organization dedicated to the promotion of clean, quiet, energy efficient personal electric vehicle transportation.

We meet on a monthly basis and discuss a range of topics including do-it-yourself electric car conversions, current Electric Vehicle (EV) and Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) news, event organization and much more.

Check out the links on the menu above to see the latest EV projects. Do you have a project to share? List your project now with our easy forms. How about any special tools that you want to share or sell. We have a new tool share/sell form for that too. Are there Books collecting dust on your shelves, why not share them with other members. Shared Reference Material Form.  In addition to our monthly meetings, we have events, group projects, and seminars. Also there is a private Forum on Yahoo called: mnevgp Minnesota EV Group

News From Our President

Happy New Year to all,

We will have an exciting year ahead of us. There is a lot of buzz around EVs and many manufacturers are going to bring their first EVs to the market before the end of this year. Detroit Auto Show www.naias.com will give us some idea what will be happening this year in the EV field. I will be visiting the show next week and I will put together a brief report about what I see and find out. I will share my findings with you at the social hour before our next monthly meeting.

For the actual meeting we have a special treat for you. This winter has been a bit frosty here in Minnesota and it has left many EV owners working hard to make their heating systems work right. This month we will have a panel of experts sharing their experiences and show some systems used to heat the batteries and interiors of their EVs. This panel will consist of Lee Hart, Dave Peichel, Stew Roberts, Michael Shoop and Chris Simon. I’m sure we will have interesting stories and a wealth of experience to learn from.

In our November meeting we started a process to form some Special Interest Groups that could meet independently outside of our monthly meetings. This would let people focus more on specific areas and also give an opportunity to get involved for those of our members who can’t make it on Thursday evenings. We will continue this process in the upcoming monthly meetings, giving groups some time at the end of the meeting to get to know each other and figure out if they can find a common time and place to meet.

Our first big challenge for the year is to find a new meeting place(s) for our group. Flannery Construction is looking for a buyer for their facility and therefore will not allow outside groups to use their meeting room after this month. We are also starting to be a bit too big for the Electric Vehicle Store. The board has done some preliminary work on this, but we haven’t been able to find anything great yet. Our ideal meeting place would::

  • Be available 5:30 - 9:00 PM, the fourth Thursday of the month
  • Seat at least 50-60 people.
  • Be centrally located
  • Have a parking lot by the entrance, where we could take a look at vehicles
  • Allow us to bring food into the space
  • Free parking
  • Free space (we are a non-profit and our meetings are open to everyone)
  • Shared interests with the space owner would be plus (E.g. renewable energy company, auto technology training facility. ..)

If anyone has a nice facility in mind, could you please contact them and let me know if you find something that could work for us.

Hope to see you on 28 th,

Jukka Kukkonen

President
